BPI was the lead design firm to prepare conceptual and detail design for the future Central Quad as part of a major reconstruction of East Los Angeles College. BPI developed an overall conceptual plan, for a 1.8-acre site, bordered by the existing Student Activities Building, the Technology Center and the future Humanities Building. BPI also prepared detail design, construction documents and specification for a 0.8-acre site as part of a phased implementation program.

The Central Quad design allows for small and large groupings/activities, highlighted pedestrian pathways with color and textured paving patterns, directional lighting, and a balance of trees, turf and hardscape. The design also highlights the main entrances to existing and future structures and creates a unique blend of color and textures. The Central Quad design received the unanimous approval of the College through the shared governance process.
